Our suggested cycle route: Ballynacarrigy and back (32km). Follow the path of the Royal Canal Greenway west where it meets the Shannon River at the village of Clondra in Co. Longford with towns along the way of Ballynacarrigy, Abbeyshrule, Ballymahon or why not follow the 8km greenway branch off into the centre of Longford Town.

Green Route: Mullingar - Cloondara / Longford (65km)
Scenic cycling journey along the picturesque, peaceful slow moving 200 year old Royal Canal Greenway Traffic free cycling path and linking on to the Old Rail Trail greenway, passing through bogland, limestone bridges, old railway staon plaorms, Cyclists can enjoy the natural beauty and tranquillity of the area, with plenty of spots to rest and take in the views, with option to stop off for lunch or a cuppa at Coolnahay cafe / beautiful Kids Playground in Ballina at 5km out with sweet shop just down from the harbour, if you're feeling up to a longer day out this route can be extended all the way to Ballynacargy harbour and Abbeyshrule 32km (Rusc inn), Ballymahon 42km Longford Town 60km, Cloondara / Shannon river 65km.
